4:45 p.m. February 11, 2014. Breathing tube came out. First words were deemed “appropriate” by Dr. Jate: “Finally. Now, would you all get out of my face?” (And in case you can’t tell, she’s smiling in this photo)

8:00 a.m. February 12, 2014. That really is a smile. And a new doll. The gifts seem to arrive hourly. (Thanks, Julie & Chris!) (Again, that’s a smile.)
Oh my goodness her color looks awesome! Yeah, sometimes pain meds make you…Not so nice. I can see how that’s a smile. 😀 Glad she’s awake and recovering!
I thought she looked pink and pretty, too. Thanks for noticing!
How beautiful she looks already today!

Funny you said that–the first thing the surgeon said when he did rounds was, “Charlotte, you look like you had your hair done today. So pretty.” She said, “Can everyone leave the room?” Too grumpy to deal with a compliment today, poor baby.
